Q. What will my child
think of me if I place him/her for adoption?
A. Birth parents often ask this question, and it is certainly
understandable. As part of the education process for our prospective
adoptive couples, concerns such as these are discussed. Please
rest assured that the Christian married couples we have approved
are genuinely sensitive to your feelings and are prepared to
present you to your child in as positive a light as possible.
They will explain to the child that you were not in a place or
time in your life where you could provide for all the needs your
child has; and that adoption was a very loving, caring, well
thought out decision, not only for life, but for a good life.
They will explain that you took a very brave step in finding
the courage to make such a selfless decision for their future—putting
your child’s needs first.
^ TOP ^ Q.
Can I be the one to choose the family for my baby?
A. Yes! Birth parents have the opportunity to select
a Christian home for their baby by reviewing adoptive family
profiles. These profiles will include photos of the couple, and
information about their extended family and friends, their home,
etc. Each waiting couple has a letter written for you to read.
In this letter they have shared their hearts and their dreams
for a child. We will provide all non-identifying information
about the family to you, and encourage you to ask as many questions
about the couple as you like.
^ TOP ^ Q.
Will I be able to meet the prospective adoptive parents if
I want to?
A. If you choose, we will provide a family-friendly
environment where you will be able to meet the prospective adoptive
couple. Our adoption counselors will be at the meeting with you,
to give you moral support and guidance throughout the entire
experiencee.
^ TOP ^ Q.
How soon after the birth will my baby go to the family I
choose?
A. If your child is a newborn, he/she will be discharged
from the hospital and go directly home with the adoptive parents.
If you are placing an older child for adoption, then we will
decide together what is in the child’s best interest, and
assure that the transition to the adoptive parents will be as
gentle as possible, meeting your child’s specific needs.

Q. Will I be able to
request pictures and updates about my child after the adoption?
A. Yes, and our adoption counselors will discuss a plan
for exchange of information which will give you added assurance
and peace of mind in your adoption decision.

Q. Is adoption
permanent?
A. Yes, adoption provides a legal and permanent home for
your child. At the appropriate time in the adoption process, the
court will issue a final adoption decree, which will legally join
your child to that family, with all the same rights of a child
born to the couple.

Q. How will I
know that my child is safe and is doing well in his/her new home?
A. For a period of time after placement with the adoptive
parents, our adoption counselors will provide supervision for the
family, and will be able to assure you that your child has made
a successful adjustment.

Q. Can just anyone
adopt a child? How can I know the parents are good people?
A. Adoption 4KIDS’ standards for approving adoptive
couples are even higher than those required by Florida law. Background
and criminal records checks are completed through local, county,
state, and FBI agencies, and clearance is confirmed through the
Department of Children and Families. We also require additional
letters of reference regarding the couple’s character, including
a letter about them from their church pastor.

Q. It is important
to me that my child be raised in a two-parent home, with a mom
and a dad. Will Adoption 4KIDS support this decision?
A. We understand that one of the primary reasons birth
mothers choose adoption instead of single parenting is because
they realize the enormous responsibility involved in raising a
child to adulthood. We support birth parents in this matter, and
we assure you that we have identified loving married Christian
couples who are prepared and whom we have qualified for adoption.

Q. I’m
not sure if the father of my baby will agree to an adoption plan.
Can he stop me from placing my child in adoption?
A. Birth fathers have specific rights and responsibilities
regarding their children which are governed by state laws. Unless
a man meets the legal requirements in place, he will not be able
to preserve or protect his parental rights in regard to the child.
Our adoption counselors will be able to discuss your specific situation
with you, and help you in understanding the process.
